May Madness!

Hey Everybody!

Sending another note of gratitude out into the world, this time on a Friday.

Go see live music!

Seems that there are many things to do this weekend, here are but a couple in my 'hood:

Saturday, May 11th : May Madness! My favorite hot rod show because it's local! Downtown San Rafael, event begins at 12:00 noon and the car parade is at 5 pm. Needless to say, Fourth Street will be closed for the event!

Concurrently, Marin Open Studios is happening - I will be flitting about between my "studio" which is more like a storage unit at the moment, which I am working on clearing out. It would be a lot easier to just drop this stuff off at the dump, but in case you have missed the last few posts, I am calling it the "Landfill Diversion Arts Project" because my goal is to repurpose a lot of these things.

If you need something, visit Studio #18 at the MSA Gallery and Studios 1515 3rd Street, write me a note with your desired item, along with your contact info and budget (if you have one) and we'll hook up for the exchange!

That's it for now.

Be kind to yourself and everyone else.

Ox,

Mari

OALAEHOAIS! And Letting GO!

Hello All!

I have been letting go of things that are holding me back from moving forward on my life's path. As most of you know, this is a lifelong process!

One of those things: opinions of people whose purpose seems to sometimes want to discourage you from being who you are, whether it is what you want to wear, what you want to do, where you want to be. We released a new song that Arne started writing a long time ago and we finished writing it together and recording it with the help of friends!

So, if you would like to give it a listen, go to this portion of my Mari Mack Bandcamp page. It is also available via all major digital distribution outlets.

If you enjoy the tune, please tell a friend or two! I think it has a message that's much needed for this day and age. It works for me.

May Happenings:

This weekend, I am participating in Marin Open Studios. I don't have much in the way of my own art to share at this time, so I will have some information on the door of studio #18, which is downstairs in the Marin Society of Artists Gallery, at 1515 3rd Street.

May 18h - We are at The Saloon from 4 - 8 pm  - this is a departure from our usual second Saturday, because that conflicted with the open studios and Tony Perez couldn't do his usual third Saturday, so we switched!

Have a great weekend.

Ox,

Mari

April Happenings!

Hey There!

I'll add more events as I find them, but so far, here is what has shown up on my radar:

April 1st : I suggest you stay off social media if you can't take a joke. Otherwise, remind yourself not to believe most of what you see online on this day (come to think of it, any day...)

April 6th : Clothing Swap and Mending Bar at Grand Central, Petaluma 9:00 am-12:30 pm

April 12th: 2nd Friday ArtWalk - downtown San Rafael! (See Map at bottom of the page)

April 13th: I'm singing in the City at The Saloon - 4 - 8 pm  this may be my last Saturday afternoon gig, because I am planning to expand my vocal coaching hours. Then again, we will see. Lineup: Arne Frager on bass, Dave Powell on guitar, Richard Wood on keys, Roy Blumenfeld on drums.

April 14th : Bay Area Indies Film Festival : 1:00 - 6:00 pm ticket LINK

April 20th: Restring Your Thing FUNdraiser at Loud and Clear in Cotati, 1 - 4 pm. I love these people! They love music, know how to pivot, and do nice things for the community! I may actually make it to this one! See photo for more details...

Enjoy Walking on the Beach in California? Sign This Petition

 https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/no-on-sb-951-keep-california-coastline-open-and-accessible-2

What started out as a bill to carve out a small portion of San Francisco's Ocean Beach to development, has been changed to include all of California's coast  - it strips away protections that have been developed over 50 years.

Please sign. Enough is enough.

Prop 28 Money Is Available for Schools

Remember Proposition 28? Well, in 2022, California voters made a strong statement that we want more funding for arts in the schools.

This makes me happy, because I know the benefits of arts in the schools -- I went to school when we had some funding for things like art, choir, band, etc. I gained the confidence to embark on a singing career - it's a long story.

I'm researching a few platforms that aim to connect artists with schools, so stay tuned...

Best,

Mari

FTC Files Lawsuit Against Private Equity in Health Care

Sharing this for readers interested in the rising price of health care, as we all should be, although, yes, just another thing to worry about.

Well, best not to worry, because all it does is lower your immune system, which makes you sick.

FTC has filed a lawsuit, "challenges USAP and Welsh Carson’s multi-year anticompetitive scheme to consolidate anesthesia practices in Texas, drive up the price of anesthesia services provided to Texas patients, and increase their own profits." https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/2010031usapcomplaintpublic.pdf

Every Day and Sunday!

Every day is a new day, a new opportunity to make someone smile, to learn something new!

I've been on a new adventure this past week, working hard to finance my next album project, and am very excited to be singing at The Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival this weekend!

We hit the downbeat on Sunday. September 24th at 1:00 pm at the Old Mill Park Amphitheatre, just behind the library, which is a mini version of the McHenry library at UC Santa Cruz...but I digress.

I've been looking forward to this gig for quite some time, because if you know me at all, you know that redwood trees are my church, and this is right smack in the middle of a redwood grove.

Hope to see you!

Best,

Mari
