Re: Assault gun bans: It seems to me that the lawmakers focus on what they "think" they can sell and pass, what they sense is politically feasible, as opposed to what is truly needed. Listen to Cheryl Wheeler's "If it were up to me" song. Makes sense. But how are we going to achieve this, while the pro gun people, continue to twist the meaning of the Second Amendment, ignoring the phrase "well regulated militia" and its original intent? Was it truly meant to keep slaves in check? I had been taught the Second Amendment was authored to keep English soldiers at bay. I guess I will have to do some additional research on that.
Re: Prisons
The problem with prisons is the profit. And the challenge with that is we have people willing to imprison other people for money. And we, the taxpayers, pay for that. I am of the opinion that only violent people who pose a risk to public health. Any other crimes should be able to be repaid through community service and in the case of fraud, monetary restitution.
And that fact perpetuates resentment towards government, which makes some people more paranoid, and some of those people end up buying more guns.
And some folks just enjoy shooting cans with guns.
I have sometimes wondered, "What if taxpayers could have more of a say in where our money is spent?"
"Could it be something as simple as a survey on our tax form?"
That's all for now. Thanks for reading.
Take care, and be love. It feels better.
